The Zombie Who Forgot How to Scare

Leo was running through the Whispering Woods, his messy hair sticking up like he'd been struck by lightning. He loved these woods—every tree seemed to hum with secrets, and the wind carried stories of magical creatures.

That's when he saw him.

Huddled behind an old oak tree was a zombie. But this wasn't like the zombies in scary movies. This zombie wore polka-dot pajamas and had the softest, kindest eyes Leo had ever seen. He was trying to make a scary face, but it kept coming out as a goofy grin.

"I'm Zombert," the creature said sadly. "I'm supposed to be terrifying. It's in the zombie handbook. But I keep making friends instead."

Leo laughed. "Maybe you're not a scary zombie. Maybe you're a FRIENDLY zombie."

Zombert's eyes widened. Nobody had ever called him friendly before. His green skin sparkled a little, and Leo noticed something strange—a magical cable was wrapped around Zombert's wrist, glowing with golden light.

"What's that?" Leo asked.

"The Connection Cable," Zombert explained. "It appears whenever I make a true friend. But I lost the other end somewhere in these woods. Without it, I can't stay in this world."

Leo grabbed Zombert's hand. "Then we'll find it together!"

They spent the whole afternoon searching. Zombert showed Leo hidden fairy circles and sang with the birds. Every creature they met loved him immediately. A family of rabbits even let him pet their babies!

Finally, under a rainbow waterfall, they found it—the other end of the magical cable, wrapped around a crystal heart. Leo connected it, and suddenly Zombert wasn't fading away anymore. His green skin turned rosy and healthy.

"Thank you, Leo," Zombert said, hugging his new friend. "I thought being scary was my purpose. But you showed me that kindness is the real magic."

And so Leo and Zombert became the best of friends, proving that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to see who they really are—especially if they have really great hair and even better hearts.
