The Zombie Who Forgot How to Green
Lily loved climbing the old palm tree in her backyard. Its rough bark scratched her hands, but from the top, she could see the whole world—or at least her whole neighborhood. One afternoon, her golden retriever Max started barking at something strange beneath the palm's drooping leaves.
There sat a small, gray creature who looked rather like a zombie from storybooks, but instead of being scary, he was just... gray. Very, very gray. His skin was the color of storm clouds, his eyes were dull pebbles, and even his hair hung limp and colorless.
"I'm not scary," the little zombie said sadly. "I just forgot how to be green."
Lily climbed down carefully. Max sniffed the zombie's hand and gave it a hopeful lick. "What's your name?" she asked.
"Zimby," he whispered. "I used to be the guardian of the magical garden, but I stopped eating my special foods and turned all gray and dull."
Lily's eyes widened. The magical garden! Her grandmother had told her stories about it. "Grandma said the garden has a special vitamin tree—fruits that make you bright and happy again!"
She pointed up at the palm tree above them. "Look!" High in the branches, tiny glowing fruits pulsed with golden light—the legendary vitamin fruits that could restore color and joy.
"But I can't climb," Zimby said, his gray shoulders slumping. "I'm too weak."
Lily had an idea. She climbed onto Max's back. "Max, you're strong! Zimby, you can guide us from below! Together we can do anything!"
With Zimby's directions and Max's steady strength, Lily reached the glowing fruits. She tossed three down—each one burst with light like tiny stars. Zimby caught them and ate slowly.
Magically, color began to spread through his gray body like paint on water—rosy pink in his cheeks, emerald green in his hair, golden light in his eyes. He laughed, and it sounded like wind chimes.
"Thank you!" Zimby danced, now vibrant and alive. "I learned something important: staying bright isn't just about eating right—it's about having friends who help you climb!"
Lily, Max, and the now-colorful Zimby sat under the palm tree, eating the rest of the magical vitamin fruits together. Some adventures are best shared, and sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need a little help remembering how to shine.
