The Zombie Who Couldn't Swim
Max loved exploring his grandmother's magical garden, where vegetables grew bigger and brighter than anywhere else. One sunny afternoon, while hunting near the **spinach** patch, he spotted something extraordinary — a tiny green figure wobbling among the leaves. It looked like a **zombie**, but instead of being scary, it wore a bright yellow bow tie and round spectacles!
"Hello!" Max called out bravely.
The little figure jumped. "Oh! You can see me?" Its voice squeaked like a happy mouse. "I'm Zeb, and I'm the guardian of the garden."
Max laughed. "I've never met a zombie gardener before!"
"Well," Zeb said shyly, adjusting his bow tie, "I was once an ordinary spinach leaf that got sprinkled with moonlight magic. Now I take care of all the vegetables, keeping them happy and safe."
That's when Max noticed Zeb looked sad. "What's wrong?"
"All the other garden creatures go **swimming** in the crystal pond," Zeb sighed, pointing to sparkling water that glittered like diamonds. "But I'm afraid. What if the water washes away my magic?"
Max smiled, remembering something in his backpack. "I brought an old charging **cable** from home! It's super long and strong. We could tie it to a tree so you'll stay safe while you try."
Zeb's eyes brightened like tiny stars. "Really? You'd help me learn?"
"Of course! That's what friends do."
Together they tied the cable around Zeb's waist and secured the other end to a sturdy oak tree. Step by careful step, they approached the pond. The water sang soft songs, and dragonflies danced above the surface like floating jewels.
"You can do it, Zeb!" Max encouraged.
Slowly, Zeb dipped one foot in, then another. "It's... it's wonderful!" He splashed and kicked, laughing so hard that nearby butterflies joined in the fun.
Suddenly, a cheerful chime rang out — Max's **iPhone**, set to remind him about dinner.
"That's my mom!" Max said, checking the screen. "But look, Zeb — you're swimming!"
Zeb beamed, water droplets glistening on his green skin. "I did it! And I'm still magical!"
They high-fived, and Max realized something important: sometimes the scariest things turn out to be the most wonderful adventures — especially when you have a friend who believes in you.
From that day on, Max visited Zeb every afternoon. They swam together, and Zeb taught the other vegetables to splash and play too. The spinach patch grew happier than ever, and Max learned that courage isn't about not being afraid — it's about being afraid and trying anyway.
And sometimes, the very best friends are the ones you least expect to find hiding among the spinach leaves.
