The Zombie Who Couldn't Swim
Lily sat by the edge of Bluebell Pond, dangling her feet in the cool water. She loved watching the ripples dance across the surface, but she never went deeper. Swimming scared her.
Suddenly, something green and sticky popped up from beneath a lily pad. It looked like a zombie—a small, round zombie with googly eyes and stretchy blue skin.
"Please don't be scared!" the little zombie squeaked. "I'm Zim! I'm not scary, I'm just... sticky."
Lily blinked. "You're... a zombie?"
"Yes, but I'm a friendly zombie from the Magic Marsh!" Zim wiggled his tiny arms. "I was playing tag with my friends when I fell into this pond. The problem is... zombies can't swim. We're too heavy!"
Lily looked at Zim floating helplessly. "You're stuck?"
"Completely stuck," Zim sighed. "The water keeps pulling me away from the shore."
Lily looked at the water. It had always seemed so deep and scary. But Zim needed help.
"I'll save you!" Lily declared. She took a deep breath and waded in. The water felt cool and gentle around her legs. She waded deeper, past her knees, past her waist.
"You're doing great!" Zim cheered. "The water likes you!"
Lily laughed. She realized the water wasn't scary at all—it was like a big, friendly hug. She reached Zim and gently lifted him onto her shoulder.
"Thank you, Lily!" Zim gave her a sticky hug. "You were very brave."
"I wasn't scared at all," Lily smiled. "Actually, can we stay and play? I think I want to learn to swim properly."
And so Lily and Zim spent the whole afternoon in the water. Zim taught her that the water was her friend, not something to fear. By sunset, Lily was swimming like a fish, and Zim was floating on her back like a little green captain.
Sometimes, the best adventures come from the most unexpected friendships. And sometimes, the things that seem scary are just waiting to become your best friends.
