The Zombie Who Couldn't Stop Running

Lily loved autumn, especially when the leaves turned brilliant shades of gold and amber. Every day after school, she would go running through the forest behind her house, collecting the prettiest leaves to press into her scrapbook.

One crisp afternoon, while running along her favorite path, Lily spotted something unusual. Behind an old oak tree sat a small zombie with patchwork overalls and bright orange hair tied in two messy pigtails. The zombie was crying, her orange tears falling onto the fallen leaves.

Lily stopped running. Her mother had always said zombies were scary, but this one looked sad and lonely.

"Hello?" Lily whispered. The zombie looked up with surprised eyes.

"I'm Zimmie," the zombie said shyly. "I've been running away from the scary zombie village for three days. They said I'm too cheerful to be a real zombie."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're running away?"

Zimmie nodded. "I love making friends and sharing oranges from my special tree. But other zombies only like grumbling and groaning. They said I have to be scary or leave."

Lily smiled. "You don't have to be scary! You can be my friend instead."

Every day after school, Lily started running to the forest to meet Zimmie. They would sit under Zimmie's magical orange tree, which grew the sweetest oranges in the world, and talk about their dreams. Zimmie wanted to open a school where zombies could learn to be kind. Lily wanted to be a teacher.

One day, Lily had an idea. "What if we show the other zombies that being kind is better than being scary?"

Together, they started running back to the zombie village, carrying baskets of magical oranges. When they arrived, Lily and Zimmie offered oranges to every zombie they met. Slowly, the grumpy zombies tried the fruit and smiled. Their orange-stained faces looked happy instead of scary.

The zombie leader, astonished by the joy spreading through the village, declared that zombies could choose their own path from now on.

Zimmie opened her school the very next autumn. Lily became the first human teacher at a zombie school, proving that friendship and kindness can change even the scariest hearts.
