The Zombie Who Couldn't Scare
Lily loved playing padel in her backyard, hitting the ball against the wall with her bright orange paddle. One sunny afternoon, the ball bounced over the fence into the mysterious forest behind her house. Her cat, Whiskers, darted after it.
"Whiskers, come back!" Lily called, grabbing her paddle and rushing through the gate. The forest was enchanted with palm trees that whispered secrets and flowers that glowed in purple and gold.
She followed Whiskers deep into the woods until she reached a clearing where a giant bear sat on a tree stump. But this wasn't a scary bear – he wore a polka-dot bowtie!
"Welcome!" the bear boomed kindly. "I'm Barnaby. Are you looking for your cat?"
Behind Barnaby emerged a green-skinned zombie boy with messy hair and mismatched socks. He looked sad.
"I'm Zed," the zombie mumbled. "I'm supposed to be scary, but everyone just laughs at me."
Lily noticed something glowing around Zed's neck – it was her cat's favorite toy mouse! "You found Whiskers' toy!"
"I wanted to make friends," Zed admitted, "but I only scared animals away."
"Maybe you don't have to be scary," Lily said with a smile. "Want to learn padel?"
Zed's eyes lit up. For the first time, someone wasn't running away from him. Barnaby clapped his giant paws together, and soon they were all playing padel in the magical clearing – a girl, her cat, a bear in a bowtie, and a zombie who discovered that kindness is much more powerful than scares.
As Lily walked home with Whiskers and her paddle, she waved goodbye to her new friends. Sometimes the most unlikely creatures make the best friends – even zombies who just want to play.
