The Zombie Who Couldn't Scare
In the middle of the Magic Jungle stood an enormous talking palm tree named Penny. Every morning, Penny would wave her fronds and sing to the animals below.
One day, a little bear cub named Bruno trotted by, looking worried. His fur was matted with leaves.
"What's wrong, Bruno?" Penny asked, her voice rustling like wind through leaves.
"I'm supposed to be scary today!" Bruno sighed. "It's the Great Scare Contest, and everyone knows bears are terrifying. But I keep tripping over my own paws!"
Just then, a magnificent bull named Barnaby trotted into the clearing. His horns were polished to a shine, but his eyes looked nervous.
"I'm in the contest too," Barnaby admitted. "But I'm afraid I'll hurt someone with my horns. I'm not scary enough. I'm just... big."
Penny's fronds shook with laughter. "Oh, my friends! Being scary isn't about size or strength. It's about timing!"
Suddenly, the sky crackled. Lightning flashed—purple lightning, magical lightning! It zapped right into Penny's trunk, and three round green coconuts fell to the ground.
The coconuts began to wobble. Then they hopped. Then they stood up on little twiggy legs and groaned, "Brrraaaiiins..."
"ZOMBIES!" Bruno and Barnaby shouted together, hiding behind Penny.
But the zombie coconuts weren't scary at all. They were trying to say "Brains" but what they really meant was "Friends!" They waddled over to the hiding animals and offered them flowers made of palm fibers.
"They want to be friends," Bruno realized, stepping out. "The zombie coconuts are the kindest creatures I've ever met!"
Barnaby laughed. "And they're terrible at being scary!"
Penny twinkled. "Exactly. Sometimes the things that seem the most frightening are just the ones who need friends the most."
That day at the Great Scare Contest, Bruno, Barnaby, and their little zombie coconut friends didn't win. But they did win something better: they learned that true friends don't need to be scary to be brave. And sometimes, the most magical adventures start with the most unexpected friendships.
Now, every full moon, if you visit Penny the palm tree, you might still see them all together—a bear, a bull, and three wobbly zombie coconuts—dancing under the lightning stars, the best of friends.
