The Zombie Who Caught Lightning
Lily lived in a small house surrounded by swaying palm trees. Every night, she watched storms dance across the sky, but she was lonely. Her parents worked late, and she had no brothers or sisters.
One evening, as lightning crackled across the dark clouds, Lily spotted something strange in her backyard. A small green figure stood under the oldest palm tree. He looked patchy and mismatched, like someone had sewn him together from different fabrics.
"I'm Ziggy," the figure said in a friendly voice. "I'm a zombie, but not the scary kind. I'm a magic friend brought to life by lightning!"
Lily's eyes widened. "You mean... you're REAL?"
Ziggy nodded. "Every hundred years, lightning strikes this special palm tree, and someone who needs a friend appears. That someone is me, and that friend is YOU!"
From that night on, Lily and Ziggy had amazing adventures. They climbed the palm trees to count stars. They chased lightning bugs across the yard. Ziggy told wonderful stories about the magical world he came from — a place where zombies were guardians of friendship, not monsters.
"But why do you look so patchy?" Lily asked one evening.
Ziggy smiled. "Because I'm made from pieces of everyone's forgotten dreams. The lightning stitches them together into something new and wonderful. Just like friends are made from shared moments!"
Lily understood then. Being different wasn't bad. Being made of "patches" meant you had many stories to tell.
When summer ended and Lily started school, she wasn't lonely anymore. She had Ziggy's stories in her heart, and she made new friends easily. Every stormy night, she still waved to the palm tree, where Ziggy would appear, his patchy face glowing like magic.
And whenever Lily saw lightning, she knew it wasn't just electricity in the sky — it was the universe stitching together new friendships, waiting to be discovered.
The palm tree's leaves whispered their secret: everyone needs someone to believe in them, even zombies made of dreams and lightning.
