The Zombie Who Became My Friend
Max's eyes widened as he stared at the moving figure across the street. It was October 31st, Halloween night, and something was shambling toward his house. Max clutched his baseball bat tighter, ready to protect his family.
But then the figure stopped. It wasn't a zombie at all—it was his new neighbor, Lily, wearing a green zombie costume complete with fake wounds and pale makeup! She waved happily.
"Happy Halloween!" Lily called. "Want to go trick-or-treating together?"
Max grinned and grabbed his orange pumpkin bucket. As they walked down the street, collecting candy from neighbors' decorated houses, they discovered they both loved swimming. Lily had a beautiful goldfish named Sparkles that swam in a bowl on her nightstand.
"Sparkles does tricks," Lily said excitedly. "He follows my finger round and round!"
Max was amazed. "I bet he'd love to watch a baseball game with us! My team is playing tomorrow."
The next afternoon, Max and Lily sat in the stands, eating orange slices while watching Max's baseball team. That's when they noticed Sparkles' bowl on Lily's porch was empty.
"Sparkles!" Lily cried. But then they heard a tiny splash—from the bathtub! Lily's mom had given Sparkles a bath in the tub while cleaning his bowl, and now Sparkles was swimming happily.
Lily and Max laughed so hard their tummies hurt. They'd made a silly mistake, but it had brought them closer together. From that day on, they were the best of friends—always ready for adventures, whether playing baseball, feeding Sparkles, or just sitting on Lily's porch sharing orange slices.
And Max learned something important: sometimes things that seem scary (like zombies) turn out to be wonderful surprises, and the best friendships start when you're brave enough to say hello.
