The Zombie Toy's Midnight Swim

Leo loved his zombie toy, even though it was missing an eye and had green stitches across its forehead. Unlike the scary zombies in movies, Zombly was soft and cuddly, with a purple bow tie that made him look dapper.

One warm summer night, when the moon glowed like a giant orange slice in the sky, Leo heard a tiny tap-tap-tapping on his window. He rubbed his eyes and gasped—Zombly was moving! The little zombie toy danced across the windowsill, waving his stubby arm.

"Come with me!" Zombly seemed to say without speaking. "I have something magical to show you!"

Leo's heart raced with excitement as he climbed through the window. In the backyard, the swimming pool shimmered with an otherworldly light. But this wasn't ordinary water—it was filled with tiny, glowing orange stars that swirled like cosmic orange juice.

"Swimming with me?" Zombly asked, his voice sounding like gentle rustling leaves. "The Star Pool only appears when someone believes in magic."

Leo dipped his toe in, and the warm, tingly water felt like a hug from sunshine. He jumped in, and suddenly he was floating through space, swimming past orange comets and friendly starfish that twinkled like Christmas lights. Zombly bobbed beside him, his stitches glowing softly.

They raced imaginary fish made of moonlight and played tag with bubbles that smelled like orange blossoms. Leo laughed so hard that orange sparkles floated from his mouth.

"People think zombies are scary," Zombly said, doing a happy backflip. "But I'm just like you—I love fun and friendship. Sometimes, things aren't what they seem at first glance."

Leo understood. Zombly looked different, but he was the best friend anyone could ask for. They swam until the orange moon began to fade, and the first birds started singing.

Back in his room, Leo tucked Zombly under his chin. The little zombie toy was still again, but Leo knew the magic was real. Sometimes, the most wonderful adventures come from the most unexpected places—and the best friends are the ones who surprise you.

As Leo drifted to sleep, he dreamed of orange starlight and midnight swims, knowing that magic lives wherever you believe in it.
