The Zombie Spy's Secret Base

Leo was the best spy in the neighborhood. Or at least, that's what his toy badge said. Every Saturday, he climbed the old oak tree behind the baseball field with his binoculars. From his secret perch, he watched everything happen on the diamond below.

One morning, Leo spotted something strange. A boy in tattered green clothes and pale face paint stumbled onto the empty baseball field. The boy moved stiffly, arms stretched out weirdly. Leo gasped. A zombie! At his baseball field!

Leo adjusted his spy glasses and zoomed in. But this zombie was doing something surprising—he was practicing baseball swing after swing. And he was GOOD.

The next day, Leo returned to his tree hideout, determined to investigate. The zombie boy appeared again, this time with a worn-out glove. Leo watched him pitch perfect strikes to an imaginary batter.

Suddenly, the boy looked straight up at Leo's tree. 'I know you're up there, spy!' he called.

Leo froze. Busted.

'Come down!' the boy yelled. 'I'm Max, and I promise I won't eat your brains.' He laughed.

Leo climbed down slowly. Up close, he could see Max's pale makeup was smudging. 'Why do you dress like a zombie?' Leo asked.

Max grinned. 'My big sister does special effects for movies. She practices on me every Friday. Saturday is my favorite day, so I come here straight from her house.' He held up his glove. 'I love baseball, but I just moved here and don't know anyone yet.'

Leo's eyes widened. 'Our team needs a pitcher! We've lost every game this season.'

'You want me on your team? Even looking like this?' Max pointed at his zombie face.

Leo smiled. 'Especially looking like that. Imagine how scared the other team will be!'

Max joined the Cobras that very day. His fastball was legendary, and his zombie costume became their good luck charm. The Cobras won their championship game, and Max made the final out by catching a popup with a dramatic zombie groan.

Leo learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the best friends. And the best spy missions aren't about catching bad guys—they're about discovering someone who needs a team.

Now Leo and Max still climb their oak tree, but instead of spying on zombies, they plan their next baseball victory together.
