The Zombie's Wild Hair
Lily loved walking through the Whispering Woods with her golden dog, Buster. Every afternoon, they'd explore together, Buster's tail wagging like a metronome marking the rhythm of their adventure.
One crisp autumn day, Buster stopped dead in his tracks. His nose twitched. A low growl rumbled in his throat. Lily peered through the trees and saw something strange—a figure shuffling near the old oak tree. It had pale green skin and tattered clothes. A zombie!
But this zombie wasn't like the scary ones in stories. It sat on a mossy log, head in hands, looking more lonely than frightening. Wild, tangled hair sprouted from its head like a bird's abandoned nest.
"He looks sad," Lily whispered. Buster sniffed the air, then trotted forward. The zombie looked up, surprised. Its eyes were soft and gentle, not mean at all.
"Nobody wants to play with me," the zombie said softly. "They run away when they see me."
Lily stepped closer. "I'm Lily. This is Buster."
"I'm Zed," said the zombie.
Buster licked Zed's hand, making him smile. His smile was sweet, not scary at all.
"Your hair is amazing," Lily said. "It's like a magical garden!"
Zed's eyes widened. "You really think so?"
Lily nodded and reached into her pocket. She pulled out three colorful ribbons—yellow, blue, and pink. "May I?"
Zed nodded. Lily gently wove the ribbons through his wild hair, creating beautiful braids. When she finished, Zed looked like a magical forest creature, not a monster at all.
"Will you be my friend?" Zed asked hopefully.
"Always," said Lily. Buster barked in agreement.
Every day after that, Lily, Buster, and Zed played together in the woods. The other children soon saw how kind Zed was, especially when he helped find a lost kitten and shared his berries with everyone.
Lily learned something important that day: Sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend. And a little kindness can transform anyone—even a zombie with wild hair—into the best friend you've ever had.
