The Zombie's Secret Wish

palmwaterzombie

Lila lived on an island where every morning she climbed the tallest palm tree to watch the sun rise. From up high, she could see the sparkling blue water all around her home. But Lila was lonely. All the other children were afraid of the old cave on the beach.

'Why won't anyone play with me?' Lila asked her grandmother one day.

Grandmother's eyes twinkled. 'Because they're afraid of the zombie who lives in the cave.'

'A zombie?' Lila's eyes went wide. 'Is he scary?'

'No one knows,' Grandmother said. 'No one has ever talked to him.'

That night, Lila couldn't sleep. She wondered if the zombie was lonely too. The next morning, she filled a coconut with fresh water from the spring and walked to the cave.

'Hello?' she called out.

A figure shuffled out from the shadows. He had greenish skin and tattered clothes. Lila stepped back, but then she noticed something — his eyes were kind, like her grandfather's eyes.

'Are you... the zombie?' Lila asked.

The creature nodded sadly. 'My name is Zephyr. I was cursed by a jealous wizard. Everyone runs away before I can explain.'

Lila's heart ached. 'That's not fair.' She held out the coconut. 'Would you like some water?'

Zephyr's eyes filled with tears. 'No one has ever shared anything with me.' As he drank, his green skin began to turn pink, like a normal person's.

'What's happening?' Lila gasped.

'The curse,' Zephyr whispered. 'It can only be broken by kindness and friendship.'

Every day after that, Lila visited Zephyr. They told stories, played games by the water, and shared coconuts under the palm trees. With each act of friendship, Zephyr transformed more. Finally, one sunny morning, the curse broke completely.

Zephyr became human again, but he never forgot what Lila had taught him. Together, they showed the whole village that sometimes the scariest things are just the loneliest ones, waiting for someone brave enough to see who they really are.

And Lila finally had the best friend she had always wished for.
