The Zombie's Secret Swim
Tommy loved his green zombie action figure more than any toy. Zombie had one floppy arm and paint missing from his nose, but Tommy thought he was perfect.
Every day after school, Tommy ran to the community pool for swimming lessons. He practiced his strokes until his fingers wrinkled like prunes. But Tommy was scared of the deep end. The water looked dark and mysterious there.
One rainy afternoon, Tommy sat by the window watching raindrops race down the glass. The cable from the television hung curled like a sleeping snake. Something strange happened – the cable started to glow!
Curious, Tommy touched the glowing cable. ZAP! A swirling blue portal appeared right in his living room.
Through the portal came a tiny green zombie – but not a scary one. This zombie had sparkly eyes and a crown made of seashells.
"Hello, Tommy!" said the zombie cheerfully. "I'm King Zilly from the Underwater Kingdom! We need your help!"
Tommy's eyes went wide. "You know my name?"
"Of course! Our magical cable connects worlds," King Zilly explained. "In my kingdom, everyone has forgotten how to have fun. They've been working for so long, they've become... well, boring zombies. But you love swimming! You can teach them to play again!"
Tommy nodded bravely. He grabbed his swimming goggles and jumped through the blue portal.
The Underwater Kingdom was amazing! Purple coral castles, fish that smiled and waved, and jellyfish that glowed like lanterns. But everyone moved slowly and sadly, just like regular zombies.
Tommy showed them how to splash, how to race, how to do cannonballs into the pearl-colored water. Soon, the whole kingdom was laughing and playing.
"Thank you, Tommy!" King Zilly said, handing him a special seashell. "Whenever you miss us, hold this to your ear. And remember – fun is the best magic of all!"
Tommy jumped back through the portal just as his mom called him for dinner. His zombie action figure sat on the shelf – and was that a tiny seashell crown on its head?
At his next swimming lesson, Tommy dove straight into the deep end without fear. He knew that even mysterious places could hold wonderful surprises, especially when you brought friendship and fun along.
