The Zombie's Secret Garden
Lily discovered something magical behind the old library. A crumbling stone pyramid, covered in vines, glowed with a soft purple light at sunset. Her best friend Tomas rolled his eyes. 'That's just a pile of rocks,' he said, tapping on his iphone.
'But look!' Lily whispered, pointing. The pyramid's stone door had begun to creak open.
Inside, they found the most beautiful garden they'd ever seen. Enormous papaya trees hung with golden fruit that seemed to hum. Bright green spinach leaves sparkled like emeralds.
Then they heard a groan.
From behind a bush shuffled a small green figure—a zombie! But this wasn't a scary zombie. It was about the size of a teddy bear, wearing a tiny gardening apron and holding a little shovel.
'Welcome!' the zombie said cheerfully. 'I'm Zeb!'
Tomas hid behind Lily. 'Zombies are supposed to be scary.'
Zeb laughed. 'Not garden zombies! We grow food that makes people brave and strong.' He handed them each a piece of papaya. 'Try this. It grew from kindness seeds.'
Lily took a bite. It tasted like sunshine and friendship. Suddenly, she felt lighter, as if she could fly. Tomas tried the spinach—it made him feel smarter, like he could solve any puzzle.
'But why does it need to be a secret?' Lily asked.
Zeb's smile faded. 'People are afraid of what's different. They see 'zombie' and run away. But magic grows when you stay and listen.' He showed them seeds that could cure sadness, make grouchy people kind, and help tired teachers feel energetic again.
Lily had an idea. 'We could help! We could tell everyone the truth about you.'
The next day, Lily and Tomas brought their whole class to the secret pyramid. At first, some kids were scared. But when they tasted Zeb's magical spinach and papaya, they understood.
Sometimes the scariest-looking things turn out to be the most wonderful. And sometimes, you just need to be brave enough to open a mysterious door.
From that day on, the zombie's garden wasn't a secret anymore. Zeb taught all the children how to grow courage and kindness, one seed at a time. And Lily and Tomas learned that magic exists everywhere—you just have to be willing to find it.
