The Zombie's Secret Garden
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he could be found in the backyard, running around the bases he'd painted on the grass. But today something strange happened.
As Leo rounded third base, he spotted something green peeking through the fence. A hand! A green, leafy hand! Leo froze. Was it a zombie? His big brother's stories about monsters danced in his head.
"Hello?" Leo called out, gripping his baseball bat tight.
The green hand pushed through the fence, followed by a friendly face. But this wasn't a scary zombie. It was covered in fresh green leaves, and its eyes sparkled like morning dew.
"I'm Zara!" the creature said. "I'm a garden zombie! I help things grow!"
Leo lowered his bat. "Garden zombie?"
Zara nodded, pointing to a patch of dirt. "Watch this!" She waved her hands and suddenly—pop!—tiny green shoots sprang up everywhere. "Spinach! The magical vegetable that gives you super speed!"
Leo's eyes widened. "Super speed?"
"For baseball!" Zara winked. "Try some!"
Leo hesitated, then took a bite of the fresh spinach leaves. CRUNCH! His feet tingled. He felt light as a feather. Zara handed him a baseball.
"Pitch it!" she cheered.
Leo wound up and threw—WHOOSH! The ball sailed over the fence, across the street, and landed right in the neighbor's yard.
"Amazing!" Leo cheered. "Thank you, Zara!"
Zara smiled, her leafy face glowing. "Magic lives in gardens, Leo. And in friendship. Come back tomorrow—I'll teach you how to hit home runs!"
That night, Leo dreamed of baseball games under the stars, playing alongside his new friend. Some zombies, he learned, weren't scary at all. Some were just magical gardeners waiting to share their secrets.
