The Zombie's Secret Garden

Lily loved exploring behind her house, especially where the old fence had fallen down. One afternoon, her cat Mittens purred loudly as something sparkled in the tall grass.

"What's that, Mittens?" Lily knelt down and discovered a thick green cable poking up from the earth. It seemed to glow softly, like it was humming with magic.

Mittens meowed and trotted alongside her as Lily followed the cable through bushes and over a small stream. The cable led to a hidden garden Lily had never seen before.

But the most surprising thing was who was tending the garden – a friendly-looking zombie! He wore overalls and a straw hat, carefully watering rows of plants.

"Hello there!" the zombie waved, his smile warm, not scary at all. "I'm Zed. Would you like to see my magical spinach?"

Lily's eyes widened. "Your spinach is magic?"

"Indeed!" Zed proudly showed her the emerald leaves. "One bite gives you the courage to try new things. Another helps you make friends easily. And the third kind... well, that's a special surprise."

Mittens rubbed against Zed's leg, purring happily. Zed laughed and petted the cat. "Animals always know who has a good heart."

Lily realized something important. "You're not like the zombies in stories. You're kind!"

"People judge by appearances," Zed said gently. "But I love growing things that help others. That's my real magic."

From behind a pumpkin patch, Zed pulled out a shiny padel. "This belonged to my grandmother. She used it to spread magic seeds. Would you like to help me plant tomorrow?"

"Yes!" Lily clapped her hands.

Every day that summer, Lily followed the cable to Zed's garden. She learned that being different didn't mean being scary, and that the best magic came from kindness and friendship. The magical spinach helped her make new friends at school, and she always brought Zed fresh cat treats for Mittens.

Sometimes the most wonderful discoveries come from following unexpected paths – and from giving people a chance, no matter how different they might seem.
