The Zombie's Secret Baseball Game

friendzombiebaseball

Ten-year-old Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his worn-out glove and head to the old field behind the woods. But no one ever wanted to play with him.

One afternoon, Leo hit a home run that sailed deep into the forest. He chased after his baseball and stumbled upon a creepy cave he'd never noticed before.

"Hello?" Leo called out. A slow, groaning voice answered: "Want... to... play?"

A green figure shuffled out. It was a zombie! But this zombie wore a dusty baseball cap and held an ancient glove.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said, his voice creaky like an old door. "I used to be the best player in these woods, fifty years ago. But everyone got scared and left. I haven't played in so long."

Leo's eyes widened. "You know baseball?"

Zed smiled, showing crooked teeth. "I bet I can strike you out!"

They played until sunset. Zed wasn't scary at all — he was funny, kind, and the most patient friend Leo had ever met. The zombie taught Leo secret pitches and tricks no one else knew.

"Why are you all alone in there?" Leo asked.

"People see a zombie and run," Zed said sadly. "But inside, I'm just someone who loves baseball."

Leo had an idea. "Come back with me! The kids need to see the real you."

The next day, Leo brought his whole class to the forest. At first, everyone hid behind trees. But when Zed started hitting baseballs into the clouds and making everyone laugh with his silly zombie dances, something magical happened.

By summer, Zed was the most popular coach in town. The zombie who everyone feared became the friend everyone loved.

Leo learned that sometimes the scariest things are just the loneliest — and a true friend can be found in the most unexpected places. Even if that friend happens to be a zombie who throws a mean curveball!
