The Zombie's Pyramid Quest

Lily had never liked the zombie toy her brother left in the sandbox. Its green face was always looking up at her with crooked teeth and one eye that wouldn't close. But today, something magical happened.

"Are you really scary?" Lily whispered, touching the zombie's plastic hand.

Suddenly, the zombie blinked! Its one good eye twinkled like a star. "I'm not scary at all," it said in a raspy but friendly voice. "I'm Zomberto, and I've been waiting for someone to play with me!"

Lily gasped, but she wasn't afraid. Zomberto stood up and dusted sand from his patchy clothes. "I know where there's a magical pyramid," he said. "It appears only when children believe in magic."

"Show me!" Lily cheered.

In the middle of the backyard, the sandbox began to shimmer. The piles of sand rose up, forming golden walls that gleamed in the sunlight. A pyramid grew taller and taller until it reached Lily's waist, with sparkles dancing around its edges.

"But how do we get in?" Lily asked.

Zomberto reached into his pocket and pulled out a magical palm frond. "When we wave this, the pyramid opens to friends."

Together, they waved the palm leaf over the pyramid's smooth surface. The stones rumbled and parted, revealing a glowing chamber inside.

What they found amazed them! The pyramid was filled with toys that other children had lost — dolls, cars, balls, and stuffed animals. Each one had a note explaining why it was special.

"These toys aren't lost," Zomberto explained. "They're waiting for new friends who will love them again. That's why I was in your sandbox — I was waiting for you."

Lily understood. Sometimes things that seem scary or forgotten just need a little kindness. She hugged Zomberto, and his cold plastic felt warm, like a real friend.

From that day on, Lily wasn't afraid of zombies anymore. She and Zomberto had many adventures, and whenever they waved the magic palm frond, the golden pyramid appeared to remind them that friendship can turn anything scary into something wonderful.

And every night, Lily made sure Zomberto had a special spot on her pillow, right next to her heart.
