The Zombie's Orange Secret

Lily skipped through the Whispering Woods, her curly red hair bouncing with every step. She was looking for the perfect spot to have a picnic by the sparkling water. The woods were magical, or so her grandmother said, and Lily believed her.

That's when she saw him—a greenish figure shuffling between the trees. He moved slowly, his arms stretched out, making soft groaning sounds. A zombie! Lily's heart beat fast, but she didn't run. Instead, she hid behind a big oak tree and watched.

The zombie stopped near a wild orange tree and reached up with trembling fingers. He plucked an orange, but instead of eating it, he squeezed the juice into a little bottle he carried. Then he moved to the water's edge, carefully adding droplets to his collection.

"What are you doing?" Lily asked, stepping out from behind the tree.

The zombie jumped! His messy brown hair stuck up in all directions. "Oh! You can see me?" His voice wasn't scary at all—it sounded kind and sad.

Lily nodded. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"

"Zephyr," the zombie said. "And I'm not really a zombie. Well, not a scary one. I'm under a curse."

He explained that an enchanted spell had made him look green and move slowly. The only way to break it was by creating a special potion made from fresh-squeezed oranges, pure mountain water, and morning sunshine.

"Oranges have a special vitamin that fights dark magic," Zephyr explained. "Vitamin C stands for Courage, and that's what I need to break free."

Lily's eyes widened. "I can help!" She gathered oranges while Zephyr collected water in his bottle. They worked together, mixing the potion under the morning sun. Finally, Zephyr drank it.

His green skin turned pink, then normal. He stood up straight and smiled, his hair now tidy and clean.

"Thank you, Lily!" Zephyr said. "You know, the real curse wasn't the spell—it was being alone. Friendship is the strongest magic of all."

They ate the rest of the oranges by the water, laughing as Zephyr showed her he could now run and dance. Lily learned that day that things aren't always what they seem, and kindness can break any curse—even the scariest ones.
