The Zombie's Magical Swimming Lesson

Lily's hair had a mind of its own. Every morning, her brown curls sprang up like springs, bouncing when she walked and tangling when she played. Her mom called it 'magical hair' because it seemed to have its own personality.

One sunny afternoon, Lily was swimming in her backyard pool when she noticed something shimmering at the bottom. It was an old wooden padel racket, decorated with colorful stones that glowed underwater. When she grabbed it, the water began to sparkle around her.

Suddenly, a green figure rose from the deep end. It looked like a zombie from Lily's storybooks — pale skin, messy hair, and stitched-up clothes. But this zombie wasn't scary. He had big friendly eyes and a sad smile.

'I'm Zed,' he said softly. 'I've been trapped in this pool for fifty years. Someone cast a spell on me because I was different.'

Lily's dog Max, a golden retriever, paddled over and sniffed Zed's hand. Max didn't bark — he just wagged his tail happily.

'How can I help?' Lily asked, clutching her magical padel.

Zed pointed to the ancient racket. 'That padel belongs to the Water Queen. If you hit the enchanted pearl three times, the spell will break.'

Lily looked around and spotted a glowing pearl floating near the pool's edge. She raised the padel, took a deep breath, and — SWISH! — hit the pearl perfectly. ONCE! TWICE! THREE TIMES!

Rainbow bubbles erupted from the water. Zed's green skin turned a warm brown, his messy hair became neat and curly, and his stitched clothes transformed into a bright blue swimsuit.

'Thank you!' Zed cheered. 'Now I can finally join my friends at the lake!'

From that day on, Zed visited Lily every summer. They spent hours swimming together, Max paddling happily beside them. And Lily's wild curls? They became even more magical — sometimes they would twist into the shape of hearts whenever Zed was near.

Lily learned that things that seem scary aren't always what they appear. Sometimes, what looks like a zombie is just a friend waiting for someone kind enough to see who they really are.
