The Zombie's Magical Garden
Lily loved running through the meadow behind her house. Every afternoon, she'd race the butterflies and jump over logs, feeling the wind in her hair. But one day, she heard a strange groan coming from the old abandoned garden at the edge of the woods.
Everyone in town said a zombie lived there. Lily's brother claimed it stumbled around at night, moaning and looking for... something. But Lily was curious.
One sunny morning, she tiptoed to the garden gate. There, shuffling between rows of plants, was the rumoured zombie! But instead of looking scary, it looked… confused. It was wearing tattered overalls and a floppy hat, and it kept dropping gardening tools.
"Excuse me?" Lily called out bravely.
The zombie jumped—actually jumped!—and turned around. Under the hat was the face of an old man with kind eyes and dirt on his nose.
"Oh goodness, you startled me!" he chuckled. "I'm Mr. Green. I've been working all night and I'm terribly tired. That's why everyone thinks I'm a zombie—I move so slowly!"
"Why were you moaning?" Lily asked.
"I was talking to my spinach plants!" Mr. Green showed her the garden. It was full of the most beautiful, bright green spinach she'd ever seen. "You see, this isn't ordinary spinach. It's magical sunshine spinach. Every leaf is packed with a special vitamin that gives you energy to run and play and never feel tired again!"
Lily's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Really!" Mr. Green handed her a leaf. "But I'm too old and tired to harvest it all. Would you like to help me share it with the town?"
Lily tried the spinach. It tasted sweet and crisp, like sunshine itself. Suddenly, she felt energy rushing through her legs. She started running—incredibly fast! She zipped around the garden, laughing, then helped Mr. Green gather baskets of the magical leaves.
Together they brought the sunshine spinach to everyone. The soccer team ate it and won their championship. Lily's grandmother tried it and started dancing again. Even grumpy old Mr. Miller at the bakery became cheerful after trying a leaf.
The town never feared the "zombie" again. Instead, they thanked Mr. Green for his wonderful gift. And Lily? She learned that sometimes the scariest stories hide the kindest surprises—and that eating your vegetables can be magical!
