Lily's pet goldfish, Fin, was no ordinary fish. While most goldfish just swam in circles, Fin could talk! He had shimmering golden scales and tiny eyes that twinkled like stars.

"Lily!" Fin bubbled one sunny morning. "I need your help! There's a zombie sad under the palm tree!"

Lily grabbed her magic padel—a special racket from her grandmother that glowed when someone needed friendship. She rushed to the beach where an old palm tree swayed in the breeze.

There sat Zed, a lonely zombie with patchy green skin and tired eyes. Zed wasn't scary at all. He looked like he'd forgotten how to smile.

"Hello," Lily said kindly. "Want to play padel?"

Zed's eyes widened. "Nobody ever wants to play with me. They say I'm too slow and clumsy."

"That's okay!" Lily handed him her magic padel. "This game is about fun, not winning. Fin can even be our referee!"

Fin swam in a nearby bucket, cheering. "Go, Lily! Go, Zed!"

Zed hit the ball and—*BOING*! It bounced off the padel and sailed high into the sky. Zed's frown turned upside down. A tiny green smile appeared!

"I'm... I'm having fun!" Zed laughed.

The game grew more magical. Every time Zed laughed, another patch of his dull skin turned bright and colorful. His shuffle became a skip. His groan became a giggle.

"Now," Lily said, pointing to the sparkling ocean, "it's time for the best part!"

They went swimming together. Zed splashed and dove. Even Fin jumped in, doing loop-de-loops around them. They raced to a floating raft and watched the sunset turn the sky pink and orange.

"Thank you, Lily," Zed said, now glowing with happiness. "I forgot that having friends makes everything better."

Lily smiled. "And I learned that sometimes the scariest-looking people just need someone to believe in them."
