The Zombie's Magic Cable
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. Rain tapped against the window as she dug through boxes of dusty treasures. That's when she found something strange—a thick, golden **cable** that seemed to glow in the dim light.
"What are you?" she whispered, giving it a gentle tug.
The cable pulsed like a heartbeat, then began to move on its own! It slithered across the floorboards and slipped through a tiny crack in the wall. Curious, Lily knelt and peeked through the crack.
On the other side sat a small figure with patchy green skin and messy brown **hair** full of colorful ribbons and tiny flowers. The figure looked sad.
"Hello?" Lily called through the crack. "I'm Lily."
The figure jumped. His eyes went wide. "I'm Zazz. I'm a... well, I'm a **zombie**. But not the scary kind! I'm made of magic and loneliness."
Lily's grandmother had told her stories about the magical creatures who lived in the spaces between walls. Zazz explained that he'd been alone for a hundred years, ever since his last friend—a brave little mouse—had grown too old to visit.
"Will you be my **friend**?" Zazz asked hopelessly. "I promise I don't eat brains. I eat moonbeams and happy dreams."
Lily smiled. She was a little scared, but she was also curious. "Yes, Zazz. I'll be your friend."
The golden cable between them began to sparkle and glow brighter than ever. As Lily and Zazz talked about their favorite games and dreams, the cable transformed into a shimmering bridge. Lily stepped through the wall and found herself in Zazz's magical world—a cozy space filled with floating lanterns, twinkling stars, and books that read themselves aloud.
They played hide-and-seek among the floating books and shared stories late into the night. Zazz gave Lily a special flower to weave into her hair, and she gave him her favorite friendship bracelet.
"Friends stick together," Zazz said, grinning. "Even when one of them is a zombie."
From that day on, Lily visited Zazz whenever she could. She learned that friendship doesn't care what you look like or where you come from. The magic cable remained, always glowing, always connecting two hearts that had found each other in the most unexpected way.
And sometimes, when Lily was feeling lonely, she would touch the cable and feel Zazz's warmth, reminding her that she was never truly alone.
