The Zombie's Lightning Heart
Leo loved running through the palm grove behind his house, especially when the summer storms rolled in. The trees would sway and dance, their fronds whispering secrets to the wind. But today, something felt different.
A flash of lightning split the sky, and there — beneath the oldest palm tree — stood a creature. Green skin, tattered clothes, stiff movements. A zombie! Leo gasped and almost turned to run, but something made him stop. The zombie wasn't scary. It looked sad.
"Are you okay?" Leo called out, stepping closer.
The zombie looked up with surprised eyes. "Everyone runs from me," it said softly. "They think I'm scary. But I'm just lonely."
Leo's heart went out to the creature. "I'm Leo. What's your name?"
"I... I don't remember," the zombie said. "I've been wandering for so long, looking for a friend."
Another bolt of lightning crackled overhead, and suddenly, Leo had an idea. He ran to his house and grabbed his favorite toy — a stuffed bear his grandma had given him. "This is Lightning," Leo said, returning. "He was my first friend when I was scared of storms. Now he can be your friend too."
The zombie's eyes widened as it gently took the stuffed bear. For the first time, a smile spread across its face. The magic of friendship began to work immediately — the zombie's green skin started turning pink, its movements became smooth, and suddenly, it remembered everything.
"I'm Maya!" the girl cried, her voice full of joy. "I was lost and alone for so long, and your friendship broke the curse!"
From that day on, Leo and Maya were the best of friends, running through the palm grove together, no longer afraid of lightning — because they knew the greatest magic of all wasn't in storms or spells. It was in the courage to see past appearances and the heart to be kind to everyone, even those who seem different at first glance.
