The Zombie's Lightning Game

Zara was not like other zombies. Sure, she moved slowly and sometimes her arm fell off, but she loved sunny days and lemonade. The other zombies teased her. 'Real zombies love gloom!' they moaned. But Zara just smiled, her green face scrunching happily.

One afternoon, she heard a *thwack-thwack* sound behind the old museum. Curious, Zara shuffled through the tall grass and found something magical—a stone sphinx with wings of gold, hovering beside a glowing blue court.

'Welcome, little zombie,' the sphinx purred. 'I've been waiting centuries for someone brave enough to challenge me.'

The sphinx extended a golden racket. 'Play padel with me. If you win, you'll have the speed of lightning.'

Zara's button eyes widened. 'But I'm the slowest zombie in all of Graveyard Grove!'

'That's why I chose you,' the sphinx said mysteriously. 'True strength isn't about speed. It's about heart.'

The game began. Zara's moves were clumsy and slow, but the sphinx hit a ball that crackled like real lightning! *ZAP! WHOOSH!* Each time Zara missed, the sphinx smiled kindly. 'Try again, friend.'

Suddenly, a real storm gathered overhead. Lightning flashed, and Zara noticed something—the sphinx looked lonely. No one had visited in so long.

Zara made her choice. She deliberately hit the ball into the net. 'You win!' she cheered.

The sphinx gasped. 'You let me win? Why?'

'Because,' Zara said, 'winning isn't as important as having a friend.'

Tears rolled down the sphinx's stone face, turning into beautiful diamonds as they fell. 'You've given me something better than victory,' she whispered. 'You've shown me kindness.'

The sphinx touched Zara's forehead with a glowing paw. *ZAP!* Suddenly, Zara felt energy surge through her. Not lightning-fast, but smooth and graceful.

'Your heart was already the quickest thing about you,' the sphinx said. 'Now your body matches your spirit.'

Zara raced home to show the other zombies. And soon, the whole zombie town learned that padel was much more fun than being gloomy. Even better? They all became friends with the sphinx, who taught them that the best magic of all is friendship.
