The Zombie's Hidden Heart

Lily was the best spy in the neighborhood. At seven years old, she could sneak up on anyone undetected. Her messy brown hair always bounced as she tiptoed through her adventures.

One hot summer afternoon, Lily was swimming in the creek when she saw something strange. A green figure shuffled near the old willow tree. It looked like a zombie from her storybooks!

Lily's spy instincts kicked in. She dried off and crept closer, hiding behind bushes. The zombie didn't eat brains — it was planting flowers! With each step, it placed a tiny seed in the ground.

"Who are you?" Lily asked, stepping out from her hiding spot.

The zombie turned slowly. Its face was kind, not scary. "I'm Zephyr," it said in a soft voice. "I'm planting a garden for the butterflies."

Lily's eyes widened. "But you're a zombie! Aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"

Zephyr shook its head. "That's just stories. Real zombies love nature. We're slow because we appreciate every moment."

From that day on, Lily and Zephyr became best friends. They swam together in the creek, planted flowers, and had secret spy adventures. Lily learned that sometimes, the things we think are scary are actually the most wonderful friends.

And Zephyr? It learned that having a friend like Lily — someone who saw past appearances — was the greatest magic of all.

The garden bloomed beautifully, filled with butterflies and friendship. Lily's hair still bounced when she played, but now she always reminded herself: never judge someone by how they look. The best friends often come in the most unexpected packages.
