The Zombie's Golden Wish

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's magical garden, especially the towering palm tree that whispered secrets in the breeze. Every Sunday, she'd press her palm against its rough bark and listen.

One afternoon, she heard rustling beneath the palm fronds. Peeking behind the tree, Lily gasped! A greenish figure stood there—lumpy and slow, with tangled hair and patches on his clothes. A zombie!

But this zombie looked different. He held a tiny glass bowl with one lonely goldfish swimming inside. The zombie stared at the fish with tears in his eyes.

"Are you... going to eat that fish?" Lily asked, staying just out of reach.

The zombie shook his head sadly. "No. He's my only friend. But I'm so lonely, and he needs a real pond to be happy. I found him in a dusty corner of an old house."

Lily stepped closer. The zombie didn't seem scary at all—he seemed just as lonely as she sometimes felt.

"Grandma has a pond behind the garden!" Lily exclaimed. "It's perfect for goldfish. And... maybe you could visit him there?"

The zombie's face lit up. He looked like a regular boy who just needed some care.

Together, they carried the goldfish bowl to the shimmering pond. The fish swam happily, darting among lily pads.

"Thank you," the zombie whispered. "I've been wandering for so long, looking for friends. Everyone ran away when they saw me."

"Maybe they were scared," Lily said gently. "But if we show them your kind heart, they'll understand."

The zombie smiled, and his rough skin seemed to soften in the sunlight.

"I'm Zephyr," he said.

"I'm Lily. Want to play tag?"

From that day on, Zephyr wasn't lonely anymore. The other children learned that scary things aren't always what they seem—sometimes, they just need a friend. And every evening, Lily would wave to Zephyr from her window, palm against the glass, knowing kindness had turned something scary into something wonderful.

The goldfish lived happily in the pond, and Zephyr found many friends who learned that zombies—like everyone else—just need someone to give them a chance.
