The Zombie's Golden Game

Leo's grandmother had left him something strange in her wooden chest—not a toy, not a book, but an ancient iPhone with a cracked screen. When ten-year-old Leo pressed the power button, it glowed with rainbow light.

A curious game appeared on the screen. The title read: PYRAMID OF LOST SUNS.

"Cool!" Leo whispered. His fingers tapped the pyramid shape, and suddenly—whoosh! The screen swirled like a galaxy of glitter. Leo tumbled forward, falling NOT onto his bedroom floor, but onto soft golden sand.

"You made it!" a voice croaked.

Leo looked up. Standing before him was a green figure with ragged clothes and stitch marks on his face. A zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary at all. He wore polka-dot suspenders and held a wilting sunflower.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said sadly. "I've been waiting 300 years for someone to play."

"Waiting where?" Leo asked, marveling at the crystal pyramid towering above them.

"In the Lonely Pyramid," Zed explained. "Long ago, a grumpy wizard cast a spell. He said I'd stay zombie-fied forever unless someone kind came to play the Golden Bull Game with me. Everyone was too scared to try."

Leo's heart went out to poor Zed. Being lonely was worse than being scared.

"I'll play!" Leo said bravely. "What's the Golden Bull Game?"

Zed's eyes brightened. He pointed to the pyramid's peak. "The Golden Bull waits at the top. We must roll him down together, and wherever he trots, joy will spread again!"

They climbed the crystal steps, hand in hand. At the top sat a magnificent statue—a bull made of pure golden light, sleeping peacefully.

"Ready?" Zed asked.

"Ready!" Leo grinned.

Together, they gave the Golden Bull a gentle push. He opened his eyes, shimmering like sunshine, and trotted down the pyramid steps. Everywhere his golden hooves touched, gray sand bloomed into flowers. Withers turned to wonders.

As the Golden Bull reached the bottom, Zed's green skin faded to healthy brown. His stitches disappeared.

"I'm me again!" Zed cheered. "Thank you, Leo!"

The iPhone in Leo's pocket buzzed. When he pulled it out, the game screen showed Zed smiling, waving beside fields of flowers.

"Come back anytime!" Zed called as Leo tumbled back into his room.

Leo hugged the phone to his chest. Some things looked scary at first, but friendship and courage could turn any curse into a game. And sometimes, the best adventures came from the most unexpected places—like an old iPhone and a lonely zombie who just wanted to play.
