The Zombie's Golden Friend

Maya's goldfish, Sparkle, was the most ordinary fish in the world. Or so she thought.

Every day after school, Maya would sit by the fishbowl and watch Sparkle swim in circles. "You're boring," she'd sigh. "I wish you could do something magical."

One afternoon, something extraordinary happened. A mysterious glowing cable appeared out of nowhere, stretching from Sparkle's fishbowl all the way to Maya's computer. The cable pulsed with rainbow colors, humming a gentle melody.

When Maya touched the cable, she heard a tiny voice. "Hello? Can anyone hear me?"

Maya gasped. "Sparkle? Is that you?"

"I'm not Sparkle," said the voice. "I'm Barnaby, and I'm stuck on the other side of this magical cable. I'm a zombie, but I'm not scary. I'm just lonely."

Maya's eyes widened. Zombies were supposed to be frightening monsters that stumbled around saying "Brains!" But Barnaby didn't sound like any zombie she'd ever heard about.

"Why are you talking through my fishbowl cable?" Maya asked.

"I love goldfish," Barnaby explained. "Where I live, everything is gray and gloomy. But goldfish are so bright and cheerful. I've been watching Sparkle swim for months, wishing I could have a friend."

Maya thought about all the times she'd complained about boring old Sparkle. Barnaby thought Sparkle was wonderful!

"Wait here," Maya said. She ran outside and returned with a small frond from her palm tree in the yard. She placed it near the fishbowl.

"What's that for?" Barnaby asked through the glowing cable.

"It's from my palm tree," Maya said. "Maybe if you follow this cable all the way here, you could sit under the palm tree and watch the real goldfish. You wouldn't have to be lonely anymore."

The cable sparkled brighter than ever. "Really? You'd let a zombie visit?"

"You're not scary," Maya said firmly. "You're just someone who needs a friend. And everyone deserves friends, even zombies."

That evening, as the sun set, Barnaby emerged from the magical cable. He wasn't scary at all – he was a small, green creature with mismatched buttons on his shirt and the kindest eyes Maya had ever seen. He sat under the palm tree, watching Sparkle swim, and for the first time in his life, he wasn't lonely.

Maya learned something important that day: sometimes the most ordinary things (like boring goldfish) are actually extraordinary to someone else. And sometimes, the things we think are scary (like zombies) just need a little friendship to show their true colors.

Now Maya and Barnaby sit under the palm tree every evening, watching Sparkle swim, connected by friendship and a magical cable that glows rainbow colors whenever they laugh together.
