The Zombie's Garden Surprise

Lily loved her garden, especially the patch where she grew spinach. Every afternoon, she would water the leafy green plants and talk to them as if they were her friends. But she was always lonely.

One day, while planting spinach seeds, she noticed something strange. The funny garden statue—her dad called it a zombie because it looked like a sleepy person rising from the earth—seemed to move. Lily rubbed her eyes. It couldn't be real.

But it was! The zombie stretched and yawned, shaking dirt from its stone shoulders. "Hello there," it said in a gravelly but kind voice. "I've been watching you care for this garden."

Lily gasped. "You're alive!"

"Only when the moon is full," the zombie explained. "My name is Zed. I've been sleeping in gardens for a hundred years, waiting for someone who truly loves plants."

Lily's eyes widened. "Would you like to be my friend?"

Zed smiled, showing surprisingly nice teeth for a zombie. "I would love that. But I'm afraid children will be scared of me."

"Not if they know you!" Lily said bravely. "And I have just the thing to help."

She picked a handful of fresh spinach leaves from her garden. "This is special spinach. My grandmother said it gives courage and friendship magic to anyone who eats it."

Zed took the spinach and nibbled it cautiously. Suddenly, his gray skin turned a healthy green color, his eyes sparkled like emeralds, and he didn't look scary at all anymore. He looked like a friendly garden guardian!

"Thank you, Lily," Zed said. "You've shown me that true friends see past appearances. And this spinach is delicious!"

From that day on, Zed helped Lily's garden grow more beautifully than ever. The other children weren't scared of him either, especially when he shared his magical spinach and told them stories from his hundred years of traveling through gardens.

Lily learned that sometimes the best friends come from the most unexpected places, and a little kindness—like sharing spinach—can change everything.
