The Zombie's First Friend

In a cozy little town called Sunnyville, where the sun always smiled and the trees whispered hello, there lived a most unusual zombie named Ziggly. But Ziggly wasn't like the zombies in scary stories. His green skin sparkled like emeralds in the sunlight, and instead of saying "brains," he loved saying "bananas!" Ziggly's biggest problem was that everyone was too scared to be his friend.

Every afternoon, Ziggly would peek through the fence at the park, watching children laugh and play. His favorite spot was near the padel court, where kids whacked bright yellow balls back and forth over a net. The ball went THWACK, THWACK, THWACK, and children cheered when someone made an especially good shot. Ziggly's feet wiggled with excitement, but he stayed hidden behind the bushes.

One day, a girl named Luna spotted something green moving near the fence. She was the smallest player on the padel court, with pigtails that bounced when she ran. Luna crept closer and found Ziggly watching sadly.

"Hello?" Luna said bravely. "I'm Luna. What's your name?"

Ziggly was so surprised that he nearly fell over. "I'm Ziggly," he whispered. "I like watching padel. The ball looks like a little yellow moon."

Luna giggled. "Do you want to play? We need one more player for our game!"

Ziggly's eyes grew wide. "Really? But I'm a zombie. Everyone runs away when they see me."

Luna smiled and took his hand, which was soft and fuzzy like a peach. "My mom says the best friends are the ones you least expect. Come on!"

On the padel court, Ziggly discovered he was amazing at the game! His zombie arms were extra long, so he could reach balls nobody else could. When he hit the ball, it went WHOOSH through the air. The other children cheered, and Luna gave him a high five.

"That's my friend Ziggly!" she announced proudly. "The best padel player in Sunnyville!"

That afternoon, Ziggly learned something wonderful: being different doesn't mean you can't belong. Sometimes, the best friend you'll ever make is someone who looks a little different from everyone else. And in Sunnyville, from that day on, zombie wasn't a scary word anymore—it meant "friend."
