The Zombie's Colorful Hair
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. It was full of mysterious boxes and dusty treasures. One rainy Saturday, she found something peculiar: a crocheted zombie doll with bright orange yarn hair and a tiny purple hat.
"That's Zombellina," Grandma said, appearing in the doorway. "I made her when I was your age. She isn't scary like the zombies in movies. She's a friendship zombie."
Lily looked closer. The doll's mismatched button eyes seemed to twinkle. Her yarn hair was wild and wonderful, sticking out in every direction like a pumpkin explosion.
"What does she do?" Lily asked.
"She helps children who feel lonely," Grandma whispered. "Put on her purple hat, make a wish, and Zombellina's magic spreads."
That night, Lily lay in bed thinking about the new girl at school, Maya, who sat alone at lunch. Lily had been too shy to say hello. She held the little zombie and carefully placed the purple hat on its yarn hair.
"I wish Maya could find a friend," she whispered.
The next morning, something amazing happened. Lily's own hair suddenly had streaks of orange - just like Zombellina's! At school, Maya gasped. "Your hair is magical!"
Lily smiled. "It's friendship magic. Want to sit with me at lunch?"
Maya's eyes lit up. As they ate together, Lily noticed something wonderful. Maya's hair had purple streaks now too!
"Friendship magic works both ways," Lily realized.
From that day on, they were inseparable. And whenever they saw someone sitting alone, they would touch their colorful hair and remember Zombellina's lesson: true friends don't just find each other - they help others find friendship too.
The zombie doll with wild orange hair and a purple hat had taught Lily the most important magic of all - kindness spreads faster than any spell.
Grandma was right. Some zombies aren't scary at all. Some are just what you need to find your best friend.
