The Zombie's Baseball Game
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every Saturday, he and his best friend Mia played catch in the park. But this Saturday was different. A strange old man had set up a cardboard pyramid in the middle of the field.
"Step right up!" the man called. "Enter the Pyramid of Imagination!"
Mia pulled Leo toward it. "Let's see what's inside!"
They stepped through the pyramid's opening and gasped. The world had changed! The sky was purple, and the grass was bright orange. Best of all, a small green zombie stood there, holding a baseball bat.
"Hi!" said the zombie. "I'm Zara. Will you play baseball with me?"
Leo hid behind Mia. "Zombies are scary!"
Zara smiled. "Not me. I'm an imagination zombie! I come alive when children play inside the pyramid. And I love baseball!"
Mia stepped forward. "I'll pitch!"
The game began. Zara wasn't very good at hitting, but she laughed every time she swung and missed. Leo started to giggle too. Soon, he was having the most fun he'd ever had.
"You're not scary at all," Leo said. "You're our friend!"
Zara beamed. "That's the magic! Inside the pyramid, anything can be a friend if you give it a chance. Even zombies love baseball!"
They played until the sun set, then Zara hugged them goodbye. "Come back anytime! The Pyramid of Imagination is always open!"
Walking home, Leo realized something important. "You know, Mia? Things that seem scary might just be lonely. They might be waiting for someone to give them a chance."
Mia nodded. "Like Zara. She just wanted a friend to play baseball with."
From that day on, Leo and Mia visited the pyramid every Saturday. And Zara the zombie became the best baseball player in all of imagination land, all because two children looked past her appearance and saw her heart.
