The Zombie's Baseball Dream

Max loved playing baseball in his backyard. Every afternoon after school, he'd practice pitching against his old wooden fence. His dog Buster would chase the ball, barking with joy. But one cloudy evening, something strange happened.

As Max was running to catch a high fly ball, he saw someone watching from behind the oak tree. It looked like a boy with greenish skin and patchy clothes. Max's heart raced, but curiosity made him step closer.

"Hi," said the boy shyly. "I'm Zed. I love baseball too."

Max noticed Zed moved slowly, like he was still waking up from a long nap. His skin looked a little different, but his smile was warm and friendly.

"Want to play catch?" Max asked, surprising himself.

Zed's eyes lit up like sparklers. No one had ever asked him to play before. People usually ran away when they saw him. But Max saw something different – a friend who loved baseball just as much as he did.

They played until the streetlights flickered on. Zed wasn't very fast at running, but he could throw the ball farther than anyone Max had ever met. They laughed when Zed accidentally knocked over a flowerpot with his enthusiasm.

"Why does everyone run away from you?" Max asked gently as they sat on the porch steps.

Zed looked down. "They say I'm different. But inside, I'm just a boy who wants to play and have friends."

Max smiled and placed his baseball cap on Zed's head. "Being different is what makes you special. Baseball would be boring if everyone played the same way."

From that day on, Zed became Max's best friend. They formed a team with other kids who learned that the best teammates aren't always the ones you expect. And Max discovered that the coolest plays happen when you're brave enough to give someone a chance.
