The Zombie's Bad Hair Day

Lily loved running through the Whispering Woods, where the trees seemed to wave hello and the flowers hummed little songs. One Tuesday, while skipping along her favorite path, she spotted something glimmering under a fern—not an ordinary leaf, but an old iphone with a cracked screen that pulsed with rainbow light.

Curious, Lily tapped the screen. WHOOSH! A tiny door popped open, and out stumbled the silliest zombie she'd ever seen. He wasn't scary at all—just a little confused, with bright green skin and the wildest, messiest hair that stuck straight up like a dandelion gone wrong.

"Oh dear, oh dear!" the zombie said, twirling his hair around his finger. "I'm Zibble, and I've been stuck in that phone for twenty years! I was playing Hide and Seek with the fairies, but I fell asleep and they forgot me!"

Lily giggled. Zibble was adorable! His hair was so crazy it made her think of her little brother's bedhead every morning.

"I can help!" Lily said. "But first, we need to fix your hair. It's wild!" She pulled a ribbon from her pocket and carefully braided Zibble's messy hair into two neat pigtails. He looked positively dashing.

"Thank you!" Zibble beamed. "Now, will you help me find my fairy friends? They live at the top of Rainbow Hill."

Lily nodded enthusiastically. She loved an adventure! Together, they went running through the forest, leaping over gurgling brooks and dancing around ancient oaks. Zibble told funny stories about fairy tea parties and unicorn races. Lily taught him how to skip stones and make dandelion wishes.

When they finally reached the top of Rainbow Hill, hundreds of glowing fairies swooped down, showering them with sparkles.

"Zibble!" they cheered. "We've missed you!" They explained they hadn't forgotten him—they'd been searching for a century! (Fairy time is tricky like that.)

Before leaving, Zibble gave Lily a magical hair clip that changed color with her mood. "Friends who help friends," he whispered, "are the greatest magic of all."

Every day after school, Lily returned to Rainbow Hill. She and Zibble would go running through the meadows, sometimes playing tag with fairies, other times having zombie tea parties with imaginary cookies. And whenever Lily saw her hair clip shimmer, she remembered that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends—even green, goofy ones who need help with their hair.
