The Zombie Plant's Secret
Leo loved to spy on the stars through his telescope. Every night, he would climb to his window and watch the twinkling lights, imagining what magical worlds might exist up there.
One evening, his fluffy golden dog Barnaby started barking at something strange in the garden. Leo grabbed his flashlight and tiptoed outside to investigate.
What he saw made him gasp! A mysterious glowing green cable stretched from the middle of the vegetable patch, reaching all the way up into the sky. And at the end of the cable was... a zombie?
But this wasn't a scary zombie like in the movies. It was a friendly zombie made entirely of plants! Its head was a pumpkin, its body made of vines and leaves, and it waved leafy hands at Leo.
"Hello there!" the zombie plant said in a whispery voice. "I'm Zombi, and I come from the magical Garden Kingdom above the stars!"
Leo was amazed. "You're a zombie, but you're not scary at all!"
Zombi laughed, the sound like rustling leaves. "No, I'm a garden zombie! I tend the magical vegetables in the sky. This spinach cable connects my kingdom to your garden."
Barnaby sniffed Zombi's pumpkin head and gave a happy bark. The zombie plant pulled something from behind a leaf - a bundle of the most beautiful, sparkling green leaves Leo had ever seen.
"This is magical spinach," Zombi explained. "One bite gives you wonderful dreams. Would you like to try it?"
Leo took a bite and suddenly saw colors dancing before his eyes - purples, golds, and blues swirl together like paint on water. He felt light as a feather, as if he could float up the spinach cable himself!
Every night after that, Leo would spy through his telescope, waiting for Zombi to climb down the cable. Barnaby would wag his tail, and together they would share stories and magical spinach under the starlight.
Leo learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things can turn out to be the most wonderful friends. And somewhere up above the stars, in a magical garden, a zombie plant had found the best friends a plant could ever have - a boy who loved to dream, and a dog who loved to listen.
