The Zombie Padel Adventure
Lily was nervous. It was the day before the Halloween party, and she still didn't have a costume. All her friends were talking about what they would wear — princesses, superheroes, even a giant taco!
"What's wrong, Lily?" asked her best friend Ben, who had just come over to play.
"I don't have a costume," Lily sighed. "And I don't want to be anything scary."
Ben's eyes lit up. "I have an idea! My sister was a zombie last year, but she made it look funny instead of scary. Want me to show you?"
Lily wasn't sure about a zombie costume, but she trusted Ben. They ran to his house, where his sister Emma helped them. Instead of making the zombie look gross, she used colorful face paint to create rainbow patches on the cheeks and drew funny stitches that looked like little smiles. She added sparkly green hair spray and made a costume out of old clothes decorated with glow-in-the-dark stars.
"You're a disco zombie!" Emma laughed. "The friendliest zombie ever!"
The next day at the party, Lily felt magical in her costume. But the real surprise came when Ben's dad set up a padel court in the backyard. Padel was like tennis, but with a bouncy ball and walls you could hit off.
"Want to play?" Ben asked, holding up a racquet.
Lily was worried her costume might get messy, but then she remembered — she was a disco zombie! Disco zombies weren't afraid of anything.
They played padel all afternoon. Lily's rainbow face paint sparkled in the sun, and her zombie costume made everyone laugh when she did a funny "zombie dance" every time she scored a point. The ball bounced off the walls, and Lily discovered she was pretty good at padel!
By the end of the day, Lily had learned something wonderful: sometimes the things that scare us turn out to be the most fun, especially when you have a friend to help you see things differently.
"Best Halloween ever!" Lily said, giving Ben a high-five.
"And you're the best padel-playing zombie in the whole world," Ben smiled.
Lily knew that no matter what costume she wore next year, as long as she had her friends by her side, every adventure would be magical.
