The Zombie Guardian's Secret

Lila loved playing padel at the park near her house. But her favorite spot was behind the old courts, where a tall pyramid-shaped climbing structure stood. One afternoon, she spotted something strange near the pyramid—a shuffling figure in tattered clothes.

"A zombie!" Lila gasped, hiding behind a papaya tree that grew wild at the edge of the park.

The zombie moaned, but not in a scary way. It sounded more like... humming? Lila peeked out and saw the zombie carefully watering small flowers growing around the pyramid's base. Each flower glowed softly when watered.

"What are you doing?" Lila asked, stepping out.

The zombie jumped, turning slowly. "I'm Zara," she said softly. "I'm not really a zombie. I just dress like one so people leave me alone. I'm a guardian."

"A guardian?"

"Of the Dream Pyramid," Zara explained, touching the pyramid's side. "Children's happy dreams grow here. But someone's been trying to steal them."

Just then, Lila noticed a man in dark sunglasses watching from behind the padel court. "That's him," Zara whispered. "The dream spy."

Lila's heart raced. "What should we do?"

"We work together," Zara said. "The spy fears friendship. It's too powerful for him."

Lila took Zara's hand. Together, they walked toward the spy. He froze. "You're supposed to be scared!" he shouted.

"Why?" Lila asked. "Zara protects happy dreams. That's wonderful."

Other children had gathered around. Soon everyone wanted to help tend the dream flowers. The spy looked at all the smiling faces, then slipped away.

"He couldn't handle so much friendship," Zara laughed.

That day, Lila learned that things aren't always what they seem. Sometimes the scariest-looking people have the most beautiful jobs, and friendship is the strongest magic of all.

Now every week, Lila brings papayas from her garden to share with Zara. They eat them together by the Dream Pyramid, watching new flowers bloom from children's happiest dreams.
