The Zombie Goldfish Spy

Lily peered into her fishbowl. Something was wrong with Bubbles, her pet goldfish. He wasn't swimming like usual. He was floating... upside down!

"Oh no!" Lily cried. "Bubbles must be a zombie fish now!"

But then something magical happened. Bubbles flipped right-side up and winked at her. A tiny bubble floated up from his mouth, popping with a tiny *ping* sound. Inside was a little rolled-up note!

Lily carefully unfolded the miniature paper. It read: "DEAR AGENT LILY. I AM NOT A ZOMBIE. I AM A SECRET SPY FOR THE AQUATIC INTELLIGENCE AGENCY. I NEED YOUR HELP."

Lily gasped. Her goldfish was a spy!

"What do you need, Bubbles?" she whispered.

Another bubble popped. "THE EVIL CAT WHISKERS IS PLANNING TO STEAL ALL THE PAPAYAS FROM THE SCHOOL GARDEN TOMORROW. WITHOUT PAPAYAS, THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA CANNOT MAKE FRUIT SALAD FOR THE END-OF-SUMMER PARTY."

Lily's eyes went wide. The papaya garden! Her friend Mateo had planted those papayas himself. He had worked so hard all summer, watering them every day after school.

"We have to stop him!" Lily declared.

Bubbles swam excitedly. "YES! BUT I NEED A FRIEND TO HELP. ARE YOU READY FOR A SECRET MISSION?"

Lily nodded bravely. "I'm ready!"

That night, Lily and Bubbles came up with a plan. When morning came, Lily hid behind the papaya plants. Sure enough, Whiskers the cat crept toward the garden, eyeing the ripe orange papayas hungrily.

Just as Whiskers prepared to pounce, Lily made a loud noise. Bubbles, safe in his portable travel bowl, flashed his special spy light—*blink, blink, BLINK!* It was so bright and sparkly that Whiskers jumped straight up in the air!

The cat landed and scrambled away, scared of the mysterious flashing fish.

"We did it!" Lily cheered. She high-fived the side of Bubbles' bowl.

The next day at the school party, everyone loved the papaya fruit salad. Mateo beamed with pride.

"My papayas are perfect!" he said. "I'm so glad nothing happened to them."

Lily winked at Bubbles, who was back in his bowl on the teacher's desk, looking like an ordinary goldfish again. Only Lily knew the truth—sometimes the best friends come in the smallest packages, and even a little goldfish can be a big hero.
