The Zombie Goldfish's Midnight Magic
Emma's goldfish, Splash, had been floating sideways for three whole days. Mom said he was gone forever, but Emma refused to believe it. That night, she curled up with her fluffy cat Mittens and her stuffed bear Barnaby, wishing for just one more chance to say goodbye to her orange friend.
At midnight, Emma heard a splash from the backyard pool. She crept outside with Mittens padding softly beside her, Barnaby tucked under her arm. What she saw made her gasp.
Splash wasn't just floating—he was swimming! But not normally. He moved in a funny, zombie-like wobble, fins stiff but moving, eyes glowing with tiny silver stars. Emma leaned closer, and Splash spoke in bubbles: "Emma! I'm not a regular fish anymore. I'm a ZOMBIE GOLDFISH with magic powers!"
Mittens's fur stood up like a pipe cleaner. Barnaby seemed to wiggle in Emma's arms.
"The pool water is enchanted," Splash explained. "It transformed me into something magical. Come swim with me!"
Emma dove in, and suddenly she could breathe underwater. Mittens jumped in too, paddling like a furry little boat. Even Barnaby began to move—his button eyes twinkled as he doggy-pawed beside them.
Together, they discovered a secret kingdom at the bottom of the pool. Glowing flowers bloomed. Tiny fish painted pictures with their fins. Splash led them to a treasure chest filled with memories—every happy moment Emma had ever had with her pets.
"Being a zombie isn't scary," Splash bubbled. "It means getting a second chance to be something more wonderful than before."
Emma hugged her zombie goldfish, her brave cat, and her magical bear. Some endings, she learned, are just beginnings in disguise. Magic was everywhere—if you were brave enough to look.
