The Zombie Goldfish's Midnight Journey

Lily peered into her fishbowl. Her goldfish, Finny, floated sideways at the top, completely still.

"Mom! Finny's acting like a zombie goldfish!" Lily called out. But her mom was asleep.

The clock struck midnight. Suddenly, Finny twitched. Then—WHOOSH—he grew legs! Not scary legs. Silly, wobbly legs.

"Are you a zombie?" Lily whispered.

Finny shook his head. He pointed to the window with his orange-colored fin. Outside, a stream of glowing water flowed through the air like a ribbon of moonlight.

Finny jumped from his bowl and landed in the magical water, running upstream on two legs. Lily grabbed her boots and followed.

They ran through sleeping gardens where flowers bloomed at their touch. They raced up rainbows that sparkled like sugar. A bluebird sang them a song about friendship.

The water led them to a pond where other fish were stuck, trapped in nets left by careless visitors. Finny looked at Lily with pleading eyes.

"We can help them!" Lily said.

Working together, they wiggled and pulled until every fish swam free. One grateful fish gave Lily a beautiful orange scale that shone like a tiny sun.

As dawn approached, Finny grew tired. His legs disappeared. He swam back to Lily's fishbowl, which was somehow filled with the magical glowing water now.

"Thank you, Finny," Lily whispered, placing the orange scale on her nightstand. "Being a zombie goldfish is actually pretty wonderful."

That night, she dreamed of water, running, and a very special friend who showed her that even the smallest creatures can be the biggest heroes.
