The Zombie Goldfish's Magical Swim
Lily peered into her classroom aquarium, watching the orange goldfish glide through the water. But something strange happened when the teacher wasn't looking — the little fish swam right up to the glass and WINKED at her!
"Psst! Take me swimming!" the goldfish bubbled, and somehow Lily could understand him! His name was Finn, and he explained he was actually a MAGIC goldfish who could swim anywhere — even through air!
That afternoon, Lily snuck Finn home in a water jar. As soon as they reached her backyard pool, Finn did a flip and ZOOM — he was swimming through the air like a flying fish!
"But wait," Lily giggled, pointing at Finn's scales. "You look all droopy and your eyes are buggy! You look like... like a ZOMBIE goldfish!"
Finn laughed, doing a silly loop-de-loop. "That's because I'm swimming OUT of water! My magic makes me go all floppy and funny-looking!"
They played for hours — Finn swimming through the air while Lily chased him, both of them giggling until their sides hurt. But as the sun began to set, Finn grew weaker.
"I need to go back," Finn said sadly. "Magic like mine has a price. If I stay too long, I'll really become a zombie and forget who I am."
Lily knew what she had to do, even though it made her heart ache. She carried Finn all the way back to school, returning him to his aquarium home.
"Will you remember me?" Lily whispered, pressing her hand to the glass.
Finn swam close and whispered through the water, "Real friends are never forgotten. And who knows? Maybe one day you'll discover YOUR own magic."
Lily smiled, touching the pocket where she'd secretly tucked one of Finn's golden scales. It glowed softly with possibility.
Some adventures end, but the magic of friendship swims forever in your heart.
