The Zombie Goldfish's Magical Game
Lily loved swimming more than anything. Every summer day, she'd dive into her backyard pool, imagining it was a magical ocean filled with mermaids and treasure. Her pet goldfish, Goldie, would watch from her bowl on the patio, his orange scales shimmering in the sunlight.
One afternoon, something strange happened. Goldie was floating at the top of his bowl, not moving at all. Lily's eyes filled with tears. "Mom! Goldie looks like a zombie fish! He's not moving!"
Her older brother Sam laughed. "That's just how fish sleep, silly. Want to play padel?"
Lily wiped her eyes. Padel was their favorite game — like tennis but with a smaller court and magical bouncy walls. They'd been running around the padel court all summer, hitting the ball back and forth, cheering whenever it made that perfect *thwack* against the wall.
"Okay," Lily said, carrying Goldie's bowl carefully to the court. "But Goldie comes too."
They played for an hour, running and laughing. Lily kept glancing at Goldie, worried. Suddenly, the ball flew toward the fish bowl!
*NO!*
Lily dove, catching the ball just in time. But in that moment, something magical happened. Goldie's eyes opened. He wasn't a zombie fish at all — he'd been in a deep sleep, dreaming of underwater adventures!
*SPLOOSH!* Goldie jumped right out of his bowl and landed in the nearby pool!
"Goldie!" Lily cried, jumping in after him.
But Goldie wasn't just swimming — he was GROWING! His orange scales turned rainbow-colored. He grew legs and arms! He stood up in the shallow end, now three feet tall, with the biggest, friendliest smile Lily had ever seen.
"Thank you for saving me from the ball!" Goldie said. "I'm a magical goldfish, and I've been waiting for someone to wake me up properly."
Goldie granted them each one wish. Sam wished he could play padel like a champion, and suddenly he could hit the ball perfectly every time. Lily wished she could talk to all animals, and now she understood every bird song and cat meow.
But Goldie's favorite gift was their friendship. Every day after that, they'd play padel together — the magical goldfish was surprisingly good at running around the court!
Lily learned that things aren't always what they seem. What looks like a zombie fish might just be a magical friend waiting to wake up.
