The Zombie Goldfish's Magic Pool

Lily loved her backyard pool more than anything in the world. Every summer afternoon, she'd splash and dive until the sun painted the sky orange. But this summer, something magical happened.

One day, Lily noticed her pet goldfish, Finny, floating sideways in his bowl. Her eyes filled with tears. Finny had been her birthday present last year, and they'd had so many adventures together in her imagination.

"I'll give him a proper pool funeral," Lily decided, carrying Finny's bowl outside.

But when she gently poured Finny into the pool, something extraordinary happened. Finny didn't sink. Instead, he began to glow with golden light! His scales shimmered like tiny stars, and suddenly, he swam!

"Lily!" Finny's voice bubbled up like magic. "I wasn't sleeping. I was becoming something special!"

Lily gasped. "You're... you're alive! But you looked like a..."

"A zombie goldfish?" Finny giggled, doing a flip. "That's what happens when goldfish drink magic pool water! Now I can swim forever and talk to my best friend!"

The pool water began to sparkle and swirl. Other fish appeared - rainbow fish with glittering fins, silver fish that sang like tiny bells. They were all magic fish who had found their way to Lily's pool.

"We're having a party," Finny said. "Want to come?"

Lily jumped in, and suddenly she could breathe underwater! The pool had transformed into a magical kingdom. She danced with the fish, played tag with a friendly turtle, and even had a tea party with a wise old crab.

"This is the best adventure ever!" Lily laughed.

Finny swam close. "Being different makes us special. I looked like a zombie fish, but really, I was just becoming magic."

Lily understood. Sometimes, things that seem strange or scary turn out to be wonderful gifts. That summer, she learned that magic exists everywhere, especially in her own backyard pool.

Every evening, Lily and her zombie goldfish Finny would watch the sunset together, planning their next underwater adventure. And they both knew that friendship was the greatest magic of all.
