The Zombie Goldfish's Magic Cable
Mia's goldfish Sparkle was the most ordinary fish in the world. Or so she thought.
Every day after school, Mia would sprinkle fish food into Sparkle's bowl. But Sparkle would only eat the green flakes that looked like tiny pieces of spinach. Mia thought this was funny.
One rainy afternoon, Mia's dad was fixing the television cable behind the fishbowl. "This old cable keeps losing its signal," he muttered, twisting the wires together.
Suddenly, Sparkle darted to the top of her bowl and SWALLOWED a loose piece of the cable!
"Sparkle, no!" Mia cried.
But then something magical happened. Sparkle began to glow with a soft blue light. Her scales shimmered like tiny stars. She swam through the air, floating right out of her bowl!
"I'm not just a goldfish anymore," Sparkle said in a bubbly voice. "The cable gave me magic powers! Now I'm a zombie goldfish – I can swim anywhere, even through walls!"
Mia's eyes grew wide. "Can you show me?"
Sparkle zoomed around the room, leaving trails of sparkles everywhere. She swam right through the closed door!
"Let's go on an adventure!" Sparkle called.
Together, they swam through clouds and over rainbows. They raced with shooting stars and danced with the moon. But when they returned home, Sparkle's glow began to fade.
"I need energy," Sparkle said sadly. "Magic makes me hungry."
Mia remembered something. She ran to the kitchen and came back with a piece of fresh spinach from her mom's salad.
"Try this!" Mia said.
Sparkle nibbled the spinach and – ZING! – her blue glow returned brighter than ever!
"Spinach gives me SUPER magic power!" Sparkle cheered.
From that day on, Mia and her zombie goldfish had magical adventures every night. And Mia learned that even the most ordinary things – like a fish who loved spinach – could hold the most extraordinary secrets.
