The Zombie Goldfish's Magic

Lily peered into her fishbowl. Her goldfish, Goldie, floated at the top. He hadn't moved all morning.

"Goldie?" Lily whispered. Her eyes filled with tears. Goldie had been her best friend since her birthday, three months ago.

Suddenly, Goldie's tail twitched. Then—SPLOSH! He jumped right out of the bowl!

Lily gasped. Goldie landed on her desk, flopping happily. His orange scales sparkled like tiny stars. His googly eyes looked bigger than usual.

"You're... you're like a zombie goldfish!" Lily giggled. "You came back to life!"

Goldie blew a bubble that popped into a tiny silver crown. This was magic—real magic!

"I need help," Lily told Goldie. "Tomorrow is swimming lessons, and I'm scared. The water is so deep and big."

Goldie swam through the air in a little circle. He nudged Lily's hand with his nose, then swam toward the bathroom door, gliding like he was in an invisible ocean.

In the bathtub, Goldie waited while Lily filled it with warm water. When she climbed in, Goldie dove in too—swimming, jumping, and doing flips!

"See? Swimming is like dancing in water," Goldie seemed to say with every happy splash.

Lily practiced kicking her legs while Goldie swam around her. The zombie goldfish showed her how to float like a leaf, how to blow bubbles like a fish, and how to be brave.

"You're the best teacher ever!" Lily said, hugging her magical friend.

The next day, Lily jumped into the big pool without hesitation. She kicked. She floated. She blew bubbles. Her teacher couldn't believe it!

"You're a natural swimmer!" her teacher said.

Lily smiled secretly. She knew the truth. Sometimes the best friends come in the smallest, fishiest packages—even ones that are a little bit magical and a little bit zombie.

That night, Goldie slept peacefully in his bowl. His zombie adventure had helped a friend find courage. And that's the best magic of all.
