The Zombie Goldfish's Home Run
Timmy's favorite things were his orange cat Marmalade, his pet goldfish Sparkle, and playing baseball in the backyard. Every afternoon, Timmy would practice his swing while Marmalade chased the ball and Sparkle swam lazy circles in her bowl, watching through the glass.
One rainy Tuesday, something terrible happened. Sparkle floated at the top of her bowl, not moving at all. Timmy's eyes filled with tears as his mom gently placed Sparkle in a special box. But instead of burying her, Timmy had a better idea.
He took Sparkle to the old enchanted pond behind their house, where legend said magical things happened. Timmy sprinkled some of his baseball field's dirt over the box—dirt from where he'd hit his first home run. "Please," he whispered, "I just want my friend back."
The water began to glow. Sparkle's box opened, and out swam a fish that shimmered like rainbow confetti. She was back—but different. Her scales sparkled like tiny stars, and she swam with twice the energy she'd ever had before.
"You're a zombie goldfish!" Timmy laughed delightedly.
Sparkle—the zombie goldfish—leaped from the pond and did a flip through the air. She wanted to play baseball too! Timmy grabbed his orange bat, and together they invented a new game: water-baseball. Sparkle would jump up to bat the ball with her tail, while Marmalade ran outfield and Timmy pitched.
They played until sunset, three friends—boy, cat, and magical zombie goldfish—learning that some friendships are strong enough to transcend anything, even death. And that's how Timmy learned that magic exists if you believe strongly enough, and that the best games are played with friends who love you, zombie or not.
