The Zombie Goldfish Dance

Emma's backyard pool shimmered like liquid sapphire under the summer sun. Her pet goldfish, Goldie, swam in circles in a glass bowl on the pool deck, watching Emma practice her cannonballs.

One evening, as papaya-colored sunset painted the sky, Emma noticed Goldie acting strange. The little fish floated at the top of her bowl, not moving. Emma's heart hurt. She carefully carried Goldie's bowl to the pool's edge.

"Please wake up," she whispered.

Suddenly, lightning crackled across the darkening sky. A single bolt struck the pool's water, sending up sparks of blue and gold. Emma gasped—but she wasn't scared. The lightning felt magical, like nature's way of saying something wonderful was about to happen.

To her amazement, Goldie began to glow. The little fish swirled in her bowl, then leaped right into the pool! Emma watched, wide-eyed, as Goldie grew bigger and bigger, until she was the size of a dolphin.

But Goldie looked different. Her scales were slightly transparent, and she swam with a wobbly, zombie-like dance that made Emma giggle.

"Are you a zombie goldfish?" Emma asked.

Goldie nodded and performed a joyous flip, creating a splash of rainbow droplets. Emma realized her fish hadn't been sick—she'd been transforming! The lightning's magic had awakened something special inside Goldie.

From that day on, every time lightning flashed, Goldie would do her happy zombie dance. Emma learned that sometimes things aren't gone forever—they're just becoming something more magical than we could imagine.

Now, whenever thunder rumbles, Emma runs to the pool with a fresh papaya slice for Goldie, and together they dance in the rain, two best friends sharing the most wonderful secret in the world.
