The Zombie Garden Surprise
Fiona Fox twitched her fluffy orange tail as she peeked over the garden fence. The old moon was full and bright, casting silver shadows across the most mysterious patch of land she had ever seen.
"What are you doing?" whispered a small voice from behind.
Fiona jumped! It was Callie Cat, the shyest feline in the village. Her big yellow eyes twinkled with curiosity.
"Looking at the zombie garden," Fiona whispered back. "My grandmother says the plants there come alive at night!"
Callie's ears perked up. "That sounds scary!"
"Maybe not," Fiona said bravely. "Let's see!"
Hand in paw, they crept toward the patch. Suddenly, a plant wiggled! Then another! But these weren't scary zombies at all — they were dancing! Tomato vines did the cha-cha. Sunflowers swayed like ballerinas. And right in the center grew the biggest, brightest papaya either had ever seen.
The papaya glowed golden and began to sing!
"Welcome, friends!" it chimed. "I am the Halloween Papaya, and once a year, I grant one special wish to those who are brave enough to visit us."
Fiona and Callie gasped. The zombie plants weren't scary — they were magical!
"What's your wish?" asked the papaya.
Fiona looked at Callie, who had always been too shy to make friends. "I wish for Callie to have courage," Fiona said generously.
"But that's YOUR wish!" Callie meowed.
The papaya glowed even brighter. "Friendship is the greatest magic of all," it said. "Granted!"
Callie stood tall. "Thank you, Fiona. Now I wish... that we could come back every Halloween!"
The zombie plants cheered, and the papaya twinkled. "And so you shall!"
From that night on, Fiona and Callie visited their magical zombie garden every Halloween, learning that things aren't always what they seem — and that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends.
